Abstract

Glioblastomas are considered the most common and frequent primary malignant neoplasms affecting the nervous system. Generally, these conditions manifest predominantly in adult individuals, with an incidence estimated at around 3 to 4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. It is important to note that the highest incidence of glioblastomas is observed in the sixth and seventh decades of life, and furthermore, there is a slight predominance of this disease in the male sex compared to the female sex. Glioblastomas represent a highly aggressive brain tumor that has been classified in the grade IV category by the World Health Organization (WHO). These tumors are known for their remarkable resistance to current treatment options, which generally combine surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy using a specific drug called Temozolamide. The challenging nature of these tumors is revealed in tumor recurrence, which typically occurs approximately every 6.7 months after treatment is initiated. In addition, the average life expectancy of patients diagnosed with glioblastoma is approximately 14 to 16 months, underscoring the serious threat they pose to the health of those who suffer from them.
