Abstract

Introduction: Ovarian dermoid cysts, also known as mature cystic teratomas (MCTs), are the most common ovarian germ cell tumors in young women. They can occur in women of any age and are most common among women of reproductive age. Patients may be asymptomatic or present with chronic pelvic pain or a pelvic mass. Acute pain occurs when complications occur. About 20% of patients have no symptoms when tumors are detected. Tumors are often discovered incidentally during imaging studies for other indications. Clinical case: A female patient with no important history, refers abdominal pain of 1 month of evolution, mother refers that she goes to a health center where localized lymphadenopathy is diagnosed. Conclusion: Tumors that develop in the ovaries are considered uncommon or frequent during childhood, constituting only between 1% and 5% of the total of all tumors diagnosed in pediatric patients. Up to ninety percent of all tumors that occur in the ovaries of children are actually germ cell tumors. Of these types of tumors, the most frequently encountered is known as mature cystic teratoma.
