Abstract

Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease, commonly abbreviated as VKH, is a type of disorder that is classified as autoimmune and has a significant impact on multiple systems of the human body. This complex disorder not only affects visual health, compromising eye function, but also involves the central nervous system, which can cause various neurological symptoms. In addition, the disease has repercussions on the auditory system, which can result in hearing problems, and also affects the integumentary system, which includes the skin and its appendages. Thus, it can be said that VKH is a multifaceted health disorder that requires a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment. An immune system response against antigens that are related to melanocytes, which are present in various parts of the body such as the uvea, meninges, inner ear, skin and hair, results in the appearance of multiple manifestations of the disease. These manifestations may arise at different stages throughout the evolution of the condition, thus showing the variability in its development.
