The processes that occur inside cells are extremely complex and multifaceted, and are regulated by a dynamic and constantly changing intracellular signaling system. In order to gain a deeper and more detailed understanding of the various biological processes involved, the technique known as flow cytometry is used. This methodology allows us to determine the phenotypic characteristics of cells by measuring their dimensions and carrying out a simplified analysis of their internal composition. Flow cytometry is a methodology used in the field of haematology, which is dedicated to the detailed study of blood, with the aim of classifying the different cells that compose it, based on criteria such as their size and the complexity of their structure. Since its creation in 1976, flow cytometry has evolved considerably and has incorporated a variety of new functions that extend its usefulness in various fields of science and medicine. At this moment, it has the capacity to classify cells using different methods based on fluorescence, which allows for a detailed analysis of cell viability, as well as exploring other relevant aspects related to them. Flow cytometry is a technique that is widely used in the field of biomedical research, standing out for its ability to analyze cellular characteristics accurately. However, it is worth mentioning that, in addition to its application in research, this methodology also plays a significant role in the practice of clinical diagnosis, thus contributing to the identification and analysis of various conditions and diseases in patients.
