ASSESSMENT OF POSTPARTUM SELF-CARE KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICES AMONG FIRST-TIME MOTHERS IN AMBATILLO, 2026

Abstract
The postpartum period requires specific care to promote maternal recovery; therefore, self-care is an essential component of nursing care. The objective was to evaluate postpartum self-care practices among first-time mothers in the Ambatillo community during 2026. A quantitative, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, and non-experimental study was conducted using non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Thirty mothers aged 15 to 30 who resided in the community participated. Data were collected through home visits using a survey and a validated 12-item questionnaire. The data were analyzed using frequencies and percentages. The results showed a predominance of the “sometimes” response regarding the consumption of protein, milk, vegetables, fruits, fluids, and iron, as well as attendance at postpartum checkups. Sixty percent (60.00%) always followed health recommendations. It is concluded that nursing education must be strengthened to improve these practices, thereby promoting a healthy and safe maternal recovery.
