Abstract

Lower limb pain may occur in adult women with hypertension receiving pharmacological treatment, although its origin may be related to multiple clinical conditions. The objective was to characterize sociodemographic and clinical conditions, describe losartan treatment characteristics and pain manifestations, and analyze the relationship between treatment characteristics and pain intensity. A quantitative, observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted based on the review of medical records of 99 women aged 20 to 65 years treated at the DEPORMED Clinic during July and August 2026. Sociodemographic variables, body mass index, diabetes, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, losartan treatment modality and duration, pain intensity according to the visual analog scale, and associated clinical manifestations were analyzed. Absolute frequencies and percentages were calculated. The relationship between treatment characteristics and pain intensity was assessed using Pearson’s chi-square test, with statistical significance set at p<0.05. Women aged 46–65 years (52.5%), those with overweight (56.5%), and those without diabetes (72.7%) predominated. The main concomitant conditions were disc herniation (89.9%), lumbar spinal stenosis (83.8%), and sciatic nerve alterations (78.8%). Treatment was mainly administered as monotherapy (76.8%) and for 3–5 years (52.5%). Severe pain was the most frequent intensity (52.2%), accompanied by cramps (44.4%). No significant association was found between treatment modality and pain intensity (p=0.198), or between treatment duration and pain intensity (p=0.180). The findings suggest a multifactorial context of pain and do not allow causality to be established between losartan treatment and the observed manifestations.
